The stunning hamlet of Rhyll situated on the north east point of Phillip Island is a beautiful location for a home as most have a scenic outlook. An eclectic mix of original heritage homes, fishing shacks and modern beach homes makes for a diverse and vibrant community.
Our Clients in Rhyll have a fantastic block with panoramic views of boats moored in the bay all the way to the Gurdies in the distance. The original holiday house had served its purpose over the last 3 decades but it was time for a change. For environmental and economical reasons, our clients decided to add to the good bones of their existing home rather than demolish and rebuild.
This project took 8 months to complete taking the original asbestos house on stilts to a modern beach style home with 4 bedroom, two livings spaces, two bathrooms and a lockup garage with workshop.
As often happens when dealing with a older property, unforeseen challenges arise, such as discovering the old septic in a precarious, uncharted location. Our local community of Architect, Engineer and Builder (CWC) worked closely with the Clients and Building Surveyor to ensure the best outcomes were achieved prior and during the build. In response - a quick onsite meeting, new engineer drawings and the way forward is agreed upon. Also our team of specialist tradespeople work together to find solutions as the layers of the old house are peeled back to reveal, for example, the state of the original wiring or the condition of the floorboards or wall framing. There is nothing better than watching our plumber, carpenter, electrician or tiler stand back and inspect their own work - this shows pride in a job well done.
